Purpose of the BSE PTO

The purpose of the BSE Parent-Teacher Organization 501(c)(3) is to foster a collaborative relationship between parents, teachers, and the school administration to enhance the educational experience and well-being of all students. We aim to create joy through learning by integrating fun and engaging activities that inspire a love for education.

Our Goals



Support Education

Provide resources and support to enhance the academic and extracurricular programs of the school.



Community Building

Promote a sense of community among families, teachers, and staff through events and activities that encourage participation and engagement.



Advocacy

Advocate for the needs and interests of students and the school community at large.



Volunteerism

Encourage and coordinate volunteer efforts to support school initiatives and activities.



Fundraising

Organize and conduct fundraising activities to support school programs, projects, and improvements.

Safe & Accessible Playgrounds for Buckland-Shelburne Elementary

The Parent-Teacher Organization at Buckland-Shelburne Elementary School (BSE) is working on an initiative to replace the aging, non-ADA compliant playground equipment. The playgrounds are estimated to be over 30 years old and are deteriorating, with visible cracks and breaks posing significant ongoing risk. In the last six months, there have been six incidents of children breaking bones on this playground equipment. The playground at BSE is the only playground in Shelburne and many community members make use of the equipment during off hours.

Our Vision



Replace all three playgrounds with ADA-compliant equipment



Improved surfacing underneath playgrounds to increase safety and accessibility



Add more swing sets, spinning and ground-level play elements that would greatly benefit children with diverse needs, including those who are neurodiverse.
